Eucalpytus globulus

Description:

Blue Gum Eucalyptus.jpg The essential oil which is steam-distilled from Eucalyptus globulus is one of the largest commodity-traded essential oils, aside from citrus oils. China is the major producer, and the quality often reflects the industrial nature of the production process. Small-scale production is carried out in Australia, paradoxically the original source of all Eucalypts, and is better suited to aromatherapy quality demands.

The essential oil distilled from the leaves is very high in cineole, up to 90%, and has the characteristic note which is barely modified by the other minor constituents: alpha-pinene, para-cymene, gamma-terpinene, and traces of other familiar monoterpenes.

Summary of Uses:

Aromatherapy formulations, bronchial expectorant, mucolytic
Soaps, bath products
Flavoring applications, at levels below 200 parts per million
Recommended concentration in formulations: In diffusers, use the pure essential oil or blend with other pure essential oils. In "rinse-off" product formulations: <3%. In "leave-on" product formulations: <1%. In flavor products <.02%
