Description:

spearmint.jpgSpearmint is not native to Australia. Selected chemotypes are grown in the Southern regions, where greater day length approximates its native Mediterranean locations. Used herbally since ancient Roman and Greek times: to fragrance baths, and to freshen the breath.

The essential oil, steam distilled from the flowering tops, is regarded as antiseptic, antispasmodic, carminative, clarifying, restorative and stimulating, commonly used in chewing gum, and as an insect repellent.

Australian Spearmint essential oil, unlike Peppermint, contains little or no menthol. Its significant constituents are carvone (over 70%), dihydrocarvone, and limonene.

  • Aromatherapy formulations
  • Flavoring applications
  • Recommended concentrations: In diffusers, use the pure essential oil or blend with other pure essential oils. In "rinse-off" product formulations: <2%. In "leave-on" product formulations: <1%. In flavor products <850 ppm
