Native - Australian Plant Essential Oils

For Description & Uses:

Australian Peppermint - 1/4 fl oz (7.5 ml) $5.76

Mentha x Piperita

Description:

Peppermint.jpgPeppermint is not native to Australia. Selected chemotypes are grown in the Southern regions, where greater day length approximates its native Mediterranean locations. Evidence of use dates back to 1000 BC.

The entire above-ground plant parts are steam distilled after partial drying. The essential oil is perhaps best known for its ability to induce a strong cooling effect on the skin without the influence of temperature (capsaicin from chillis has the reverse effect: heating sensation on the skin). Widely used as an analgesic and local anesthetic, stomachic, stimulating and refreshing, and well-regarded for immediate relief from hot flashes and migraines.

Australian Peppermint oil comprises nearly 80% menthol plus menthone and associated chemicals, and <10% cineole.

Summary of Uses:

  • Natural sensory coolant;
  • Aromatherapy formulations
  • Flavoring applications
  • Recommended concentration: In diffusers, use the pure essential oil, or blend with other pure essential oils. In "rinse-off" product formulations: <2%. In "leave-on" product formulations: <1%. In flavor products 500 ppm
